About Us

Dr. Deanna Baker is a 2011 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Mississippi Valley State University where she competed in Division I softball following playing for Reidland throughout high school.

Dr. Baker took ownership of Beagle’s Bay Animal Hospital (formerly known as Martell Animal Clinic) in January 2021, and now resides with her husband and twin sons in Metropolis. Dr. Baker is a native of Paducah, Ky., and her husband of Champaign, Ill., so having the opportunity to move to Metropolis feels like a homecoming to both.

Dr. Baker enjoys the personal aspects of veterinary medicine and getting to know her clients and their “furry family members” she gets to take care of. Being able to enjoy this while owning her own veterinary clinic is a lifelong dream come true.

Dr. Baker currently has three cats. She loves dogs, but recently lost her beloved rat terrier. She’s hoping to add another dog into the mix in the future.

It’s important to us that your pet will be treated with loving care as if they were our own pets. Your pet is a member of your family, and we respect and celebrate that fact. We had to make the gut wrenching and heartbreaking decision this weekend to assist our rescue cat, Nala, across the bridge. At the ripe old age of (approximately) 15, she was hurting, unable to keep weight on, and having severe kidney issues, all on top of being mostly blind, and it was just time. The staff was everything you would hope for in these times: soft spoken, caring, and gentle with my wife and daughters, not to mention our aged family companion. When it was done, and she had peacefully crossed, they provided each daughter and our best friend a set of paw prints (pictured below) so that we will never forget the girls first family pet. Nala has been seen here before but we are definitely bringing our younger cat back for his annual appointments from here on out.
