About Us

Dr. Deanna Baker is a 2011 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Mississippi Valley State University where she competed in Division I softball following playing for Reidland throughout high school.

Dr. Baker took ownership of Beagle’s Bay Animal Hospital (formerly known as Martell Animal Clinic) in January 2021, and now resides with her husband and twin sons in Metropolis. Dr. Baker is a native of Paducah, Ky., and her husband of Champaign, Ill., so having the opportunity to move to Metropolis feels like a homecoming to both.

Dr. Baker enjoys the personal aspects of veterinary medicine and getting to know her clients and their “furry family members” she gets to take care of. Being able to enjoy this while owning her own veterinary clinic is a lifelong dream come true.

Dr. Baker currently has three cats. She loves dogs, but recently lost her beloved rat terrier. She’s hoping to add another dog into the mix in the future.

It’s important to us that your pet will be treated with loving care as if they were our own pets. Your pet is a member of your family, and we respect and celebrate that fact. I can't even find the words to properly express how amazing Doc Baker and Sami are, but I'll try. Doc treats her patients like they are her own pets, is patient answering all my questions, is available even at night for emergencies, provides affordable high quality services, and ALWAYS goes above and beyond expectations. She donates services to the animal shelter in town. Doc has many discounts at various times for patients. February was a 30% off coupon for a pet dental. I use this every year when she offers it. I have 4 dogs now. One has had physical disabilities since birth and also hydrocephalus. Doc is always especially good with her. I fired 2 vets for how they treated Angel, my disabled dog, prior to finding Doc Baker several years ago. Last year my 5th dog had to cross the rainbow bridge. She was so kind and thoughtful during the process. She gave him a blanket to snuggle in my arms, kept the clinc quiet while I sobbed my goodbyes to Skittles, made a nose and pawprint memory keepsake for me, sent a sweet sympathy card in the mail, and made sure I got his ashes back quickly. Her vet tech Sami is just as amazing as Doc is. Short version is I will never use another vet except Doc Baker. If you aren't using her for Veterinary care for you pets, you should be.

I took champ and little bit in yesterday and I fell in love with not only dr baker but the assistant that was there also. I can honestly say that I'm more at ease knowing that my dogs will be taken care of you could tell how much they love animals there and I firmly believe that if a random person walked in with a dying dog or cat or animal period that dr baker would not hesitate to save that animal. So thank you so much for the heartfelt kindness you not only shown my dogs but me to.
